The Drawing Board
2010
wood and cotton rope
26' x 8' x 20'
Photographs by Elon Schoenholz, Jeff Graley and Melisssa How.
The installation, The Drawing Board, articulates the movement of action and reaction. The wood, resembling bones in the body and bodies of water, shifts and moves across the room like tectonic plates bumping into each other, reshaping the landscape. The walls dividing the three-room installation serve to separate and demonstrate the challenges of communication. Both literally and metaphorically, the rope makes visible the tension and divisions between people, cultures, countries. When viewers pull the monkey’s fist knots or the pieces of wood, they are blind to the effect on an opposite part of the installation.
